  • THE PINNACLE IN COFFEE DISTRIBUTION!

Bring competition level extraction to every shot of espresso. Using The Eight by DUOMO is an enjoyable experience. The high-quality aluminum body feels great in the hand and looks even better on your countertop. The Eight is very ergonomic, and can excel in a busy cafe or complement a meditative, morning espresso routine. The action of the press is very satisfying, the spin is effortless and effective, and the base has a built in brush to keep the eight needles nice and tidy.

DUOMO designed The Eight around the technique of the Weiss Distribution Technique (WDT). The Eight perfects the WDT and produces a more even, efficient and clean distribution (good-bye funnel and paper clip!). The design and placement of the eight needles allow for optimal performance. The end result is fluffy espresso that is evenly distributed throughout the entire basket. Shots pull more consistently and showcase the espresso in its truest form.

4 months in... this thing kind of sucks.

I was impressed initially with how thoughtfully designed this tool seemed. Depth adjustment is awkward (at the maximum depth, the needles in mine don't touch the bottom of my 20g basket), but the fact that it has a self-cleaning station, the needles and cleaning brush are all removable and replaceable, etc. is all great.

The problem, fundamentally, is that it doesn't work. After a few months of use, I realized that my shots were getting channeling regularly, and I even started to see visible clumps left in the puck after giving the tool a good 5-6 spins.

Even before that, it didn't speed up my workflow quite as much as I'd hoped. I still needed to use a dosing funnel when transferring grounds from my grinder, tap the portafilter to settle them, remove the funnel and use the Duomo (which would sometimes leave grounds on the edges of the basket or even spill some outside), then tap again, tamp, and pull. I would've considered it a slight improvement over the tedium of a manual WDT tool, except that the distribution wasn't actually working, and I've since gone back to just using a manual WDT that cost 1/10th of this device.

I can justify $200 for a truly excellent tool that I'll never need to upgrade again. But this is now a $200 paperweight.

Great feel, quality is really nice. Easy to use, packing it came in was really lovely as well.

Duomo disappointed

Looked forward to expediting morning coffee workflow but did not get the consistency regularly with this tool. We were still ended up manually distributing before using the Duomo to ensure perfection. Overall, still happier with manual distribution techniques versus this tool.

Makes everything consistent

Both my wife and I both make espresso but I do the dialing in as I'm the coffee nerd in the house hold... so this keeps everything consistent between the two of us so that her shots are as good as my shots. Also makes wdt less of a chore at 6am.

Best WDT tool

Ive had a number of WDT tools including a similar Normcore version with thinner needles that bent super quickly. This solves all the issues Ive had with other tools. Thicker needles that retract into the housing, all metal and fits perfectly over the basket. Consistent results every time and it matches my matte black Flair 58 and espresso tools. You get what you pay for. Endgame WDT for me.
