  • BETTER EXTRACTION DYNAMICS

The Unifilter™ created a portafilter revolution. Weber Workshops is extending that concept to the Unibasket™, utilizing the same construction and improvements on extraction that the Unifilter™ brought, but in a "drop-in" basket form.

The Unibasket™ is a portafilter basket created from a single, thick piece of stainless steel. Whereas typical baskets are made from thin wafers, the Unibasket™ is forged from a 1.2mm thick blank of metal. The added thickness dramatically improves the rigidity of the puck during extraction by not allowing the bottom face to bow outwards, a common cause of puck cracking and channeling during extraction.

The Unibasket™ is made from a solid piece of Stainless 304 material. All of the holes are individually laser-ablated and go right up to the vertical wall edge, giving a true 58.5mm puck from top to bottom. Now made for anywhere from 16g ~28g shots spread across four sizes (and all +/- ~1g with use or elimination of a puck screen or puck saver).

    • Compatibility:
      • The height of the Unibasket varies by size. If the existing basket in your spouted portafilter is shorter, the Unibasket may interfere with the bottom of the group handle.
      • The Unibasket will fit most bottomless group handles. It is NOT COMPATIBLE with bottomless group handles by ECM, Slayer, Gaggia, Rancillio and Breville.
    • Size:
      • 16g basket: ⌀71mm x H24mm (⌀2.8in x H0.945in)
      • 20g basket: ⌀71mm x H26mm (⌀2.8in x H1.02in)
      • 24g basket: ⌀71mm x H29mm (⌀2.8in x H1.14in)
      • 28g basket: ⌀71mm x H31mm (⌀2.8in x H1.22in
    • Weight:
      • 16g basket: 56g (1.98oz)

Weber Workshops Unibasket Review

Better than the regular portafilter baskets (the one that came with my ECM machine and Normcore, finally getting better than espresso bar coffee. Definitely worth it.
But it’s important to use a paper filter at the bottom of the basket to avoid blocking up the smaller than normal holes of the basket also ensure the naked portafilter does not curve in. For example ECM naked portafilter does not work while the Normcore portafilter does work with it.

Love it

Grear tool!

I dont use them for everything but for light roasts it works well. You can grind finer!

Nice change of pace

This basket has been fun to play with. Much faster flow than standard baskets, which has brought out some different flavors in my espresso.

Great basket

The basket itself is great quality, but I wish I’d checked that it would fit my bottomless portafilter before buying. So far I haven’t found a great bottomless portafilter that fits my Simonelli Oscar II and also is wide enough at the bottom to fit this basket (bottom opening *must* be 61mm or more). But it still fits my OEM spouted portafilter.

It’s faster flow than a VST because it has more holes. Nicely ferrous for magnetic dosing rings.

I took a star off for some advice I got from Eight Ounce before buying that wasn’t great. I wanted to know whether to get the 16g or 20g. I said I used 18g in the 18g VST with a 2mm puck screen, and the advice was to size up to the 20g unibasket. I think that was wrong—since the unibasket has straight sides, it holds more grounds than normal. I ended up buying the 16g as well and am really happy with it, but felt a little burned by the experience. Like I said, it’s a great basket, but I didn’t love the advice I got about which size to get.

Solid and interesting

A nice chance of pace compared to my vst or superfine baskets. White it’s fast flow, grinder super fine and piling tighter shots with it has given some surprising and tasty results as well
